The Three H's Of Regular Pool Cleaning During Winter
The start of winter has arrived in Queensland, and while the temperatures at this time of year are more moderate than in other chillier parts of the country, it is no longer swimming weather. As a first-time pool owner, you have heard that it is important to keep up with your pool cleaning chores over the winter months, but you are not sure why. Here are three reasons why you must regularly clean your pool right now, and to make them easy to remember, they all start with 'H'.
Havoc
While it is true that most of Queensland will not see snow over the winter months, there are still nights when the temperature drops to zero and a freeze occurs. A pool pump which is switched off to save on energy costs over the winter could lead to a large repair bill when water trapped in the swimming pool pipes causes the pipes to burst. Water which freezes in pipes expands, and that causes havoc when the pipes burst and need replacing. So leave your pool pump running, and make sure you regularly remove debris from the pool just like you would during the summer months.
Health
It is also true that during cold weather, algae and other fungi don't grow as quickly in your pool as they do in the summer. But a slowdown does not mean there is no growth happening at all. By continuing with your regular pool cleaning, you reduce the chance of any algae being in the pool when you get back to swimming in it again. Fungus in the pool is bad for health if you accidentally inhale water containing these spores.
Happy
The longer your pool is left without regular cleaning, the longer it takes to get the pool ready for swimming again when the weather warms up. If spring shows up unexpectedly as you may want it to, you won't be popular with your unhappy family who have to wait a week or two for the pool to be swim-worthy again. By keeping your pool cleaned regularly, it is always ready for a swim party.
You don't need to clean your pool as often as you do during the summer swim period, but if you give it a good clean every three weeks, the pool will look great, will not suffer damage and will be ready for use at the drop of a hat, and that makes everybody happy.
